Introduction

The creation of digital stories can be a motivating task for students who are growing up in a digital society. Storytelling, however, is much more than a creative outlet. Digital storytelling is in demand by modern corporations, entrepreneurs, and others who use this personal approach for marketing and branding. Using media to communicate a clear, creative, and powerful message can help students develop skills essential to success in our modern world while meeting grade-level learning standards.

Theory Behind Practice

All eMINTS materials are grounded in research-based best practices in K-12 education.

Classroom Visit w/Students

Ask your facilitator to assist as you implement digital storytelling with students. Your facilitator can be an extra pair of hands as students work with new software. You might consider asking your facilitator to collect data for you during a lesson.

Classroom Visit w/out Students

Ask your facilitator to conduct a planning conversation as you plan the use of digital storytelling in your classroom. You might consider collaborating with your facilitator as you plot the use of digital storytelling. Your facilitator can also review tools that may be beneficial for your students to use as they create their videos. Also, you might choose to review data collected during your lesson with a reflecting conversation.

Agenda

This module is designed to be a “flipped” learning experience. You will use the information you learn in the face-to-face session to complete hands-on/minds-on activities during the “flipped” session activities.

You will complete 1 hour and 50 minutes of work time during the flipped session. Flipped learning experiences provide you with the flexibility to learn on your own time while utilizing your newfound knowledge from the face-to-face session.
